Why social media fills you with dread

You sit down to write your social media post for the day. You’ve been dreading it, but you know it has to be done.

Now, what do you say?

  • Do you say something about the photo itself?

  • Do you try to be funny in this one?

  • Is there an emoji that could get you out of having to say anything at all?

  • Is this the moment to be inspirational?

  • Do you talk about current events? Do you ignore current events completely?

What do you say?

If this is where you find yourself, you’ve already made social media so much harder than it needs to be. Trying to do one social media post at a time is like trying to fly a plane without a flight plan.

Instead of doing one post at a time, carve out enough time to draft 6-8 posts that reflect the whole picture.

Try asking yourself these questions instead.

  • What is the reputation I’m trying to build?

  • What am I known for in real life?

  • What is a subject I could talk about over and over again?

  • What do I want people to feel from my account?

  • How can I help make people's lives better?

Planning out multiple posts will alleviate so much daily frustration and help you look forward to the impact you can make through social media. Build a reputation online; stop throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping it sticks.

Invest time or don’t do it at all.
